Out of the Barn decorative horse shoes are hand made using reclaimed horse shoes. The shoes are collected and saved each time the ferrier comes to trim and re-shoe the horses.
Horse shoes have long been used as a symbol of good luck. The Roman Legions were the first to use horse shoes and believed them to be both a symbol of luck and power. The sparks thrown off when the horse shoe met rock created an association of horseshoe and power. The number 7 is believed to be good luck by Europeans, and a real horse shoe has 7 holes.
A horse shoe hung open end up is said to gather luck. However, some believe a horse shoe itself is luck, and must point down to pour its luck on all that live there.
